From age 3, in the water without a parent

For over 50 years Athlon has been the go-to swimming school for children in Talenti, on Via Ugo Ojetti, easy to reach from Montesacro, Bufalotta and Porta di Roma.

The groups are divided by age and the classes by level: within the same time slot the children are split into several courses, and an individual learning path is set for each one. The facility has been renovated, with spaces dedicated to children and parents.

The pools

Where your child swims

Children born in 2021, 2022 and 2023 swim in the small pool, 12 meters long and 120 cm deep: there the child can touch the bottom. All the others in the large 25-meter pool.

The method

The Athlon Method

Fifty years of federal swimming school in four steps. First we build your child's relationship with the water; the results come from there.

  1. 01Settling in

The class is decided in the pool

The times are divided by age, and within the same time slot there are several courses and several instructors. Your child's class is set by watching them swim, and the instructor is assigned for good after the first week. Before then there is no instructor to know — the assignment has not yet been made — and the booking calendar doesn't show it: that information belongs to the adult activities, where classes are booked one by one. After the first week the assignment is final, and if you want to talk about it there is the Technical Director, whom you can book.

  2. 02Level

You change class without changing time

If during the season your child is ready for the next class, they move up: the time you had arranged stays the same. An individual learning path is set for each child.

  3. 03Progress

See where they are, and what they still need

In your account, under Swimming Badges, you'll find the badges achieved and the tests needed for the next level, updated about every two months. If you are already enrolled and want to talk about it with a person, you can book the Technical Director: we'll call you back.

  4. 04Swimming Badge

At the end of the season the path is completed

Swimming badge session in June, on dates announced by the club: a diploma from our Federal Swimming School and an updated record book. During the year there are the Trofeo Athlon competitions, and entry is optional.

Parents’ questions

What people ask us about Scuola Nuoto Bambini

Yes, and the way to do it is the membership itself: it is monthly and renews on the first of the month, so you can attend for a while and, if your child doesn't settle in, cancel — you are not tied to the whole season. To stop, just send an email to disdetta@athlonroma.it at least ten days before the first of the month. If you come back later, the joining fee must be paid again.
From the age of 6 yes: you need a certificate of fitness for non-competitive sports activity — issued by the pediatrician or family doctor — to be uploaded from the app (Home → Certificate, no longer by email) within 14 days of the start of the activity. Below that age it is not required. For competitive activities (Pallanuoto, Nuoto Agonistico) you need a competitive certificate instead, issued only by a sports doctor.
From age 3: Scuola Nuoto Bambini is for children born from 2013 to 2023. The youngest — those born in 2024, 2025 and 2026 — do Baby Nuoto, in the water with a parent. What counts is the year of birth, not the months: a child born in 2023 does swimming school even if they have not yet turned 3.
It depends on the year of birth, like the groups. Children born in 2021, 2022 and 2023 swim in the small pool, 12 meters long and 120 cm deep, with water at around 30.5 °C: there the child can touch the bottom. All the others, that is the older ones, swim in the large pool, 25 meters long and 140 to 240 cm deep, at around 28.3 °C.
Yes, up to age 8: we have a changing room for children with an accompanying adult, and only one accompanying adult is allowed in. You walk them up to the staff roll call: the parent never goes into the pool, and you watch the class from the balcony or the waiting room.
No: at Scuola Nuoto Bambini the parent never goes into the pool, not even on the first days or if the child is afraid. Only the staff are in the water with the children; you hand your child over at roll call and watch from the balcony or the waiting room. The course where the parent gets in the water with the child is Baby Nuoto, for children born in 2024, 2025 and 2026.
The courses are divided by age group. Within the same time slot there are several courses: during the season, children are placed in the course best suited to their learning progress.
You can go up to the balcony above the pools, wait in the dedicated waiting room near the changing rooms, or wait in the outdoor area.
No: the group is fixed. Day and time are chosen at enrollment and stay the same for the whole season, and with the twice-a-week option there are two fixed groups. Classes are not booked one by one: the only booking you make is the make-up class, when a class is missed. If you need to change group permanently, there is the course change request.
Not before the start: the instructor is assigned for good after the first week of the course, based on how your child swims, so that every child ends up in the right class for their level. Before then the assignment has not been made, and you won't find it in the booking calendar — that shows who teaches a class that is booked, which for the Swimming School is only the make-up class. After the first week, the person to talk to about the instructor and the class is the Technical Director, whom you can book: we'll call you back.
Yes: first cancel the missed class from the app, in the Junior section, then book the make-up class — in your child's same age group — starting from three days before. There are no make-up classes in the first week of the course or in the Swimming Badge week at the end of the year, and they must be used by the end of the season, 20 June: they do not carry over to the following year.
