What is Pilates

Our Pilates program is designed to develop functional strength, joint flexibility, dynamic balance and neuromuscular coordination. Through a series of exercises that integrate precise, controlled movements, this method works the deep core muscles, improving trunk stability and overall posture. Each session combines spinal mobilization, active stretching and muscle strengthening exercises for a toned, aligned body.

On the mat there are two classes, included in the same membership: Pilates Matwork, which works on control at low intensity, and Matwork 4.1, which takes the same exercises and organizes them into more dynamic sequences. The bars below measure the difference.

The classes, one by one

Pilates Matwork

You work at low intensity, with breathing guided by the instructor and a limited number of reps per exercise: what counts is how you perform the movement, not how many times. The class combines spinal mobilization, active stretching and strengthening of the deep core muscles.

Matwork 4.1

Matwork 4.1 takes some exercises from the Pilates method and moves them onto a more dynamic and functional level: precise, progressive sequences that, class after class, link together into a flow. You work on strength, stability, mobility, flexibility and motor control all together, and what improves is the quality of movement. It's accessible to everyone and challenging for anyone: an intense, engaging class with a new challenge every time.

Frequently asked questions

What people ask us about Pilates

Yes. The classes are open to all levels and the instructor offers the version that suits you: if it's your first time, or if you have a physical issue to keep in mind, tell them at the start of the class — that's what they need to know.
Yes, the certificate of fitness for non-competitive sport: it must state that you have had an electrocardiogram (ECG) at least once in your life, and it can be issued by your GP, a sports doctor or a doctor of the Federazione Medico Sportiva Italiana. You upload it from the app, in Home → Certificate: it is no longer sent by email, and no paper copy is needed. You need it even if you book and pay for a single class: it's a legal requirement, not a condition of the membership.
Yes: it's included in the Premium membership, at no extra cost. Alternatively you can book and pay for a single class, with no joining fee.
In Talenti, in North Rome, at Via Ugo Ojetti 134 — handy from Montesacro, Bufalotta and Porta di Roma.
From the Athlon Club app (on your phone or in the browser, at app.athlonroma.it), starting 3 days before the class (72 hours), and booking stays open until the class starts: you can book even at the last minute, there's no advance cutoff. Spots are limited — up to 3 active bookings at a time for Corsi Fitness, Aqua Fitness and Scuola Nuoto Adulti, 1 for Group Reformer — and if a class is full you can join the waiting list: if someone cancels, you take their place in order of arrival. The waiting list is for bookings only: it doesn't exist for enrolling in a group of the children's courses, see its FAQ.
You can cancel up to 1 hour before the start for group classes and 2 hours before for one-on-one sessions: that margin gives people on the waiting list time to be notified and take your place. After that deadline you can no longer cancel, not even through the front desk. If you had bought a single class and you cancel in time, the access you had bought is credited back to you (this applies to any single class, of any activity) — the product, not the amount: you don't get a refund or a credit in euros — and you use it for a new booking within 30 days of the date you bought it. A single class is valid for 30 days from purchase, and canceling doesn't extend the expiry: it doesn't restart from today or from the day you canceled. When you book again, the app doesn't ask you to buy it again: that's how you can see the credit is there.

Yes, with the Guest Pass Premium: 7 days with access to the whole club for €19. It's reserved for those who haven't had an Athlon membership or Guest Pass in the last 3 years. If a member sends it to you as an invitation, you have 30 days to activate it from when you receive the invitation. Alternatively you can book and pay for a single class, with no joining fee — but this applies to adult single entries. It only covers adult activities: it doesn't include children's courses or personal training. For a children's course that also sells single classes — like Baby Nuoto — the trial is booking and paying for that class, not the Guest Pass: there, the contractual joining fee of €50 one-time is paid anyway, even on the single class. Request the Guest Pass.
