Why in the water

It pushes back on every movement

Water resists movement and at the same time reduces the load of your body weight: you push against something in every direction, and your joints work unloaded. That's why the same pool hosts both a high-intensity class and a slow-paced one.

Five classes, three ways of being in the water: standing on the bottom, suspended in the large pool, or in the saddle of the bike. You'll find them all below, with the water depth for each.

Features

The classes, one by one

Standing

Aqua Aerobic

Water depth 120 cm

Aerobic movements to music, with your feet touching the bottom. You work on cardiovascular endurance, coordination and toning: the water's resistance makes every movement more demanding, and at the same time takes the load off your joints.

Aqua Tonic

Water depth 120 cm

The most intense standing class: toning, endurance and strength, with every muscle group involved. Each movement takes more effort because of the water's resistance, without overloading the joints.

Aqua Soft

Water depth 120 cm

Slow pace and low impact, always with your feet on the bottom: fluid exercises that work on joint mobility and toning. It's the least intense of the three standing classes.

Suspended

Aqua Training

Large pool, depth from 140 to 250 cm

In the large pool, where your feet don't touch: you work suspended with swimming drills and techniques, and your body also works to stay balanced. It's the most demanding water class, for aerobic endurance, strength and power.

In the saddle

Hydrobike

45-minute classes ยท water depth 120 cm

Forty-five minutes in the saddle of a bike submerged in water. The water brakes every pedal stroke: the work is on the legs and on the cardiovascular system, with the highest cardio rating of all the pool classes.

Frequently asked questions

What people ask us about Aqua Fitness

Yes. The classes are open to all levels and the instructor offers the version that suits you: if it's your first time, or if you have a physical issue to keep in mind, tell them at the start of the class โ€” that's what they need to know.
Yes, the certificate of fitness for non-competitive sport: it must state that you have had an electrocardiogram (ECG) at least once in your life, and it can be issued by your GP, a sports doctor or a doctor of the Federazione Medico Sportiva Italiana. You upload it from the app, in Home โ†’ Certificate: it is no longer sent by email, and no paper copy is needed. You need it even if you book and pay for a single class: it's a legal requirement, not a condition of the membership.
Yes: it's included in the Premium membership, at no extra cost. Alternatively you can book and pay for a single class, with no joining fee.
In Talenti, in North Rome, at Via Ugo Ojetti 134 โ€” handy from Montesacro, Bufalotta and Porta di Roma.
From the Athlon Club app (on your phone or in the browser, at app.athlonroma.it), starting 3 days before the class (72 hours), and booking stays open until the class starts: you can book even at the last minute, there's no advance cutoff. Spots are limited โ€” up to 3 active bookings at a time for Corsi Fitness, Aqua Fitness and Scuola Nuoto Adulti, 1 for Group Reformer โ€” and if a class is full you can join the waiting list: if someone cancels, you take their place in order of arrival. The waiting list is for bookings only: it doesn't exist for enrolling in a group of the children's courses, see its FAQ.
You can cancel up to 1 hour before the start for group classes and 2 hours before for one-on-one sessions: that margin gives people on the waiting list time to be notified and take your place. After that deadline you can no longer cancel, not even through the front desk. If you had bought a single class and you cancel in time, the access you had bought is credited back to you (this applies to any single class, of any activity) โ€” the product, not the amount: you don't get a refund or a credit in euros โ€” and you use it for a new booking within 30 days of the date you bought it. A single class is valid for 30 days from purchase, and canceling doesn't extend the expiry: it doesn't restart from today or from the day you canceled. When you book again, the app doesn't ask you to buy it again: that's how you can see the credit is there.
Swimsuit and swim cap. For Hydrobike, closed water shoes, like reef shoes, are recommended.
Yes, with the Guest Pass Premium: 7 days with access to the whole club for โ‚ฌ19. It's reserved for those who haven't had an Athlon membership or Guest Pass in the last 3 years. If a member sends it to you as an invitation, you have 30 days to activate it from when you receive the invitation. Alternatively you can book and pay for a single class, with no joining fee โ€” but this applies to adult single entries. It only covers adult activities: it doesn't include children's courses or personal training. For a children's course that also sells single classes โ€” like Baby Nuoto โ€” the trial is booking and paying for that class, not the Guest Pass: there, the contractual joining fee of โ‚ฌ50 one-time is paid anyway, even on the single class. Request the Guest Pass.
