Vasca Grande: the work is progressing, here’s how it will look

A summer of work, and it shows

This is our large pool as it will be: the render of the project we've worked on all summer. Pool, poolside, linings, vaults, lighting — not a touch-up, but a deep overhaul of the whole space.

It's been demanding, and we'll say so plainly. While many of you were resting, work went on at the site every day: seven days a week, Ferragosto included, to stay on schedule and deliver a job done properly. The work has gone very well, and on the September timetable you'll already find the times for Nuoto Libero, Scuola Nuoto Adulti and Aqua Fitness in the large pool.

The work, in detail

The heart of the work is the new water distribution system, rebuilt from scratch with controlled flow: it complies with current regulations and, in particular, with article 4-bis of the 2026 Sports Decree, which introduced new requirements for pool suction systems — outlets and floor grates — to eliminate the suction effect behind some serious accidents in recent years.

Around this, a complete overhaul of the whole space: the poolside and starting blocks have been redone, as have all the linings; the vaults have undergone major maintenance, and the electrical system has been rebuilt from scratch.

Why such a major project

Athlon never stops improving: in 53 years we've renewed the facility year after year. But a renovation of this scale isn't routine maintenance — it's the choice to significantly raise the standard of a historic club, one that deserves this kind of investment.

Since we restarted after the Covid period we've kept investing in the facility every year, and the numbers are proving us right: enrollments and sign-ups keep growing year after year. But the figure that tells us the most is another one, retention, which is also growing: people who join stay, and renew. It means our members appreciate the path we're taking together — and it's the clearest confirmation that we're heading in the right direction, as well as the reason we keep investing.

The pool where you learned to swim

Many of you wrote to us to find out how things were going, and that didn't surprise us: generations of people from the neighborhood learned to swim and took their first strokes in this pool. It's a pool people are attached to, and we understand — it's the same reason we wanted it rebuilt properly.

Innovation and tradition: that's what this pool represents for Athlon, and what we've worked for all summer.
